What does this test measure?

The page highlights browser key events so you can check common letters, numbers, modifiers, arrows, and function-key behavior supported by the browser.

☆

Why is this test important?

Test keyboard keys online and identify missed, repeated, or stuck key responses before replacing hardware or changing software settings.

▻

How do you run the test?

Click inside the tester and press each key once. Test modifier combinations carefully and avoid browser shortcuts that may leave the page.

▥

How should results be interpreted?

A missing event may indicate focus, layout, shortcut interception, accessibility settings, connection, or hardware trouble; repeated events may be normal key repeat or a fault.

☑

Normal and problematic results

A missing event may indicate focus, layout, shortcut interception, accessibility settings, connection, or hardware trouble; repeated events may be normal key repeat or a fault.

△

Technical limitations

Some operating-system, media, firmware, and secure keys are reserved and may not be exposed consistently to a web page.

↘

Why can the score decrease?

Unstable measurements, denied permissions, unsupported browser APIs, background load, power saving, or an incomplete test can affect the result. When a score changes, the result screen explains the reason.

⌕

What should you do if a problem is found?

Check the selected keyboard layout, reconnect the device, clean safely, disable conflicting remappers, and compare another port or computer.

Example Result Explanation

✓ GoodA stable, repeatable result in the expected range. A clear and consistent experience is expected.
△ AttentionSome indicators should be checked again. Reduce background activity and repeat the test under the same conditions.
× ProblemA repeated clear failure or instability means the relevant setting, connection, or device needs closer review.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are ghost keys and key rollover?

Rollover is how many keys your keyboard can register at the same time. On simpler membrane keyboards certain combinations exceed the wiring, so a key you pressed is missed, or one you did not press appears. Hold several keys together in this test to find your own limit.

A key lights up when I am not touching it. What does that mean?

A key that registers by itself usually means debris under the keycap or a switch that has started to fail. Power the keyboard down, clean around the key, and retest. If it repeats on the same key only, the switch is the likely cause.

Some keys never appear in the test. Is the keyboard broken?

Not necessarily. Media keys, Fn combinations and some manufacturer shortcuts are handled by the keyboard or the operating system and never reach the browser, so they cannot be shown here. Standard typing keys that fail to appear are the ones worth investigating.
