Touchpad and Scroll Test
Check mouse-wheel and touchpad scrolling response, direction, continuity, and browser-visible gesture behavior on laptops and desktop devices.
The tester records wheel and scroll events, direction, distance, and continuity that reach the browser. Scroll slowly and quickly in both directions inside the test area; on a touchpad compare one-finger pointer control and two-finger scrolling.
What does this test measure?
The tester records wheel and scroll events, direction, distance, and continuity that reach the browser.
Why is this test important?
Check mouse-wheel and touchpad scrolling response, direction, continuity, and browser-visible gesture behavior on laptops and desktop devices.
How do you run the test?
Scroll slowly and quickly in both directions inside the test area; on a touchpad compare one-finger pointer control and two-finger scrolling.
How should results be interpreted?
Missing or uneven events may be caused by page focus, smooth-scrolling settings, gesture configuration, driver software, contamination, or hardware wear.
Normal and problematic results
Missing or uneven events may be caused by page focus, smooth-scrolling settings, gesture configuration, driver software, contamination, or hardware wear.
Technical limitations
The browser cannot identify every proprietary multi-finger gesture, pressure sensor, palm-rejection algorithm, or physical switch fault.
Why can the score decrease?
Unstable measurements, denied permissions, unsupported browser APIs, background load, power saving, or an incomplete test can affect the result. When a score changes, the result screen explains the reason.
What should you do if a problem is found?
Clean the surface, review touchpad and scrolling settings, reconnect external devices, and compare another browser or user profile.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my touchpad scroll in jumps instead of smoothly?
Stepped scrolling usually means the driver is sending line-based scroll events rather than precise ones. On Windows this often follows a generic driver replacing the manufacturer version after an update.
Why does my cursor move while I am typing?
Most laptops ignore the touchpad briefly after a keystroke to prevent exactly that. If your palm still moves the cursor, the delay is set too short or disabled in the touchpad settings.
My two-finger gestures do not register. What should I check?
Confirm the gesture works elsewhere first. If nothing registers anywhere, the touchpad is in basic mouse mode, which usually means the full driver is missing rather than the hardware being faulty.
