📝 What Is Ghosting and Why Does It Happen
August 13, 2026
Ghosting is when a moving image leaves a faint trailing outline behind it. It is usually caused by a slow pixel response time on the display panel.
When is it most noticeable?
Fast-moving objects, such as in games or action scenes, make ghosting easier to see. A low refresh rate or an unoptimized monitor setting can also make it more visible.
Is it permanent?
Ghosting is usually a property of how fast the panel itself can switch pixels, not permanent damage, and can often be reduced with an overdrive or response-time setting. Those settings cannot be changed from a browser.
